Making data meaningful

Penske Transportation Solutions’ journey with data is both diverse and comprehensive. Since 2014, Penske has worked toward fully optimizing its large volumes of disparate fleet data, not only to support the needs of its associates but to ultimately enhance the overall experience for customers.

It needed a common platform that would enable the business to share insights, improve collaboration and reduce the time spent by IT staff on developing reports. It also saw the potential to use the data to deliver an improved experience for its broad client base.

APPROACH

Processing big data at scale

Penske created a Data and Analytics Governance Council to develop a common understanding of data and its potential to transform operations. It selected Qlik as the platform to support the new council’s work and provide the tools to meet its objectives.

Equally important to Penske’s approach was pulling data together from a complex range of sources and formats, including operational, IoT and external systems, to make it available where and when needed. To achieve this, Penske turned to both Qlik Replicate® and Talend Real-Time Big Data.

Data, Penske’s most valuable asset

Qlik data integration and analytics products now allow Penske to capture, analyze and extract high-value information from multiple systems and hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Penske now has dashboards across the business, in almost every department at Penske Transportation Solutions as well as the Penske Logistics entity.

Qlik also powers Fleet Insight, Penske’s portal that allows customers to interact with the business and build a stronger understanding of how they are running their operations, and a growing range of innovative and valuable AI solutions.
