CHALLENGE

Responding to an alarming problem

Gender-based violence is one of Brazil’s most pressing problems. The country consistently ranks as one of most dangerous countries in the Americas – and worldwide – for violence against women.

Leading the response is a collaboration between the Federal Senate of Brazil, the Women’s Observatory Against Violence, the Avon Institute, data journalism organization Gênero e Número and Brazilian data and analytics agency Cluster. Together, they have developed the National Map of Gender Violence.

APPROACH

An effective outlet for serious datasets

The National Map of Gender Violence brings together official public data from a range of national sources covering health, justice and public safety, as well as statistics from Brazil’s largest and longest-running national survey on gender-based violence.

Using Qlik’s data embedding capabilities, Cluster built the National Map of Gender Violence using React, an open-source library of interface components. The result is a visually appealing resource that encourages users to understand, explore, absorb and interact with its findings.
