Celebrating the Rich Tapestry of Black History Month at Qlik: A Journey of Inclusivity and Exploration

As we embark on the vibrant journey of Black History Month (BHM) in 2024, the Qlik community is filled with enthusiasm, embracing the theme of exploring the rich culture and history of the Black and African diaspora. At the heart of our celebration is the Qlik Black Alliance Employee Resource Group (ERG), a collective committed to fostering inclusivity, promoting growth, and encouraging allyship within our Qlik family.

The Qlik Black Alliance ERG is more than just a group; it's a movement dedicated to amplifying the voices and experiences of our Black colleagues around the globe. With the executive sponsorship of James Fisher, our activities are centered around three pillars: Professional Development, Community Involvement, and Inclusion & Belonging. Through mentorship, allyship, and community outreach, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive.

BHM 2024: A Celebration of Culture and Exploration:

This Black History Month, our theme revolves around exploring the rich culture and history of African Americans and the arts. We've curated a diverse range of activities that align with this theme and resonate with our community's spirit.

1. Trivia Event:
   Engage in friendly competition and learning through a music trivia event that spotlights key moments and influential figures in Black history. It's a chance for us to come together, share knowledge, and celebrate the achievements of the past and present.

2. Food Heritage Events:
   Our popular food heritage events are back! Communities are uniting through a shared love of food, exploring the culinary traditions that have shaped Black culture. It's a feast for the senses and an opportunity to appreciate the diversity that makes us stronger together.

3. Conversation with Lola Akinmade Åkerström:
   A highlight of our BHM celebrations is an inspiring conversation with the phenomenal Lola Akinmade. An accomplished author, speaker, and photographer, Lola will share her insights, experiences, and perspectives, adding a unique and enriching dimension to our celebration. The conversation will be live at our Lund Office in Sweden and broadcast to our entire Qlik organization.

4. Charity Event:
   In the entire month, we’re accepting new or gently used raincoats and umbrellas from Qlik employees as donations. This event is in partnership with Neighbors Helping Neighbors on the Mainline a charity that supports underrepresented communities in the greater Philadelphia area.

Documenting the Journey: Throughout the month, we'll be documenting our BHM activities, contributing to the wider online conversation using #BlackHistoryMonth.
