AI Governance at Qlik

  • AI policy – Qlik team members comply with our Principles for Responsible AI and processes to ensure the ethical and compliant use of any AI products developed by Qlik and any AI tools used within our organization.

  • AI governance product development review – There is an AI compliance review in Qlik's product development process to ensure any AI in our products is compliant with our Principles for Responsible AI and with relevant laws.

  • AI committee – We have an established, cross-functional team in place to ensure our AI strategy is effective and remains so in this fast-changing landscape.

  • AI council – We established an external council of renowned AI subject-matter experts from around the world to help guide Qlik's product direction and inform our roadmaps.

  • Privacy and security – Qlik has long-standing Privacy and Information Security programs to ensure our and our customers’ data is protected.

  • New law tracking – Qlik has in place a process and staff to monitor for upcoming legislation impacting our business, such as new AI laws, which assess these laws and adjust our AI compliance program accordingly.

What are Qlik Cloud’s AI offerings?
  1. Qlik Answers is a generative AI assistant that provides personalized and contextual answers from customers’ own unstructured content.

  2. Qlik Predict is a no-code, automated machine learning offering for analytics teams to create, deploy, and manage predictive models.

  3. Qlik Insight Advisor is an AI-powered assistant that uses natural language to generate analyses and visualizations and summarizes insights from customers’ structured data. It is also available in Qlik Sense Client-Managed.

  4. Generative SQL Assistant is a data loading feature that uses generative AI to convert text-to-sequel to aid users to create data pipelines and transformations.

  5. Generative Dataset Description Assistant is a part of Qlik’s Data Catalogue offering and generates a textual description of datasets and other data products using generative AI.

  6. Talend API Designer, which enables users to generative API connections using natural language.

Will you let me know when I am using AI in Qlik products?

Yes. Unless obvious in the context, we mark when users are interacting with AI with a sparkle graphic and/or note.  

Will Qlik use my data to train an AI model?

Qlik does not use the customer’s data to train any AI model external to the customer’s tenant. Any training of models internal to the customer’s tenant, such as using the machine learning aspects of Qlik Predict, is exclusively to the benefit of that customer and is not shared with others.  

Will the use of AI result in my data being transmitted to a region different from where my tenant is hosted?

No. Customers may choose the cloud region to host their tenant based on the availability of Qlik’s AI products and capabilities. Once a cloud region has been selected, Qlik will only host the customer’s data in that region. 

Does Qlik comply with the EU AI Act?

Yes, Qlik complies with all laws applicable to our business, including the EU AI Act.

Qlik’s AI would be classified under the EU AI Act as either (a) “general AI” with ‘Limited Risk’ for those AI features which can be used for general purposes (e.g., Qlik Answers), or (b) AI with ‘Minimal Risk’ for those AI features capable of performing narrow tasks (e.g., SQL Assistant and Dataset Description Assistant).

Qlik’s AI meets transparency and explainability requirements applicable to AI systems by flagging to customers and users (a) when they are interacting with AI, (b) where the output is generative AI generated, and (c) where relevant, explaining why/how the AI generated the response it did to assist with human review of the output.

Qlik’s measures to ensure compliance with the EU AI Act include:

  • Regular staff training on AI compliance and AI literacy

  • An AI Policy which includes:

    • prohibitions on use and development of AI for prohibited uses; and

    • mandatory AI governance reviews for AI development.

Please note that Qlik’s AI offerings are not designed for and should not be used for High-Risk purposes under the EU AI Act or similar legislation around the world.
